Wash (and wear) your Tableau maps
The other day, I was making a map data viz for showing the counties in Western Kenyan, highlighting uptake of Family planning services. Everything went fine, I was able to make the filled map overlaid with data from the Kenya Health Information System. My worst moments came when I had to present the data. The data viz looked like below. Cleary, you can see that the story is obscured with a lot of noise for Kenya's neighboring country - Uganda. The Uganda map comes out much stronger than the Kenyan counties. I looked for a way of removing the Uganda, as well as the other neighboring countries so that I could focus on Kenya alone. Enter washing. The map needed to be washed clean and hunged up to dry, literally like a cloth. Tableau has the feature where you can remove your unwanted maps and keep only a specific map.
